EDMONTON OILERS JEFF PETRY, Defensemen Petry has never been a hugely prolific scorer, but he’s a big defenseman who is probably the team’s best chance of having a player who can match up against the top playmakers in the NHL. FLORIDA PANTHERS SEAN BERGENHEIM, Left Wing After missing the entire 2013 season with injuries, Bergenheim returned and gave the Panthers his usual solid performance. Bergenheim is not a prolific scorer but can do a little bit of everything, making him a very valuable third-line winger. LOS ANGELES KINGS JAKE MUZZIN, Defensemen Muzzin is often overshadowed by teammates like Drew Doughty, Slava Voynov, and Alec Martinez. However, Muzzin is a very good twoway defenseman himself, as he has a very hard shot from the blue line and has made huge strides defensively as well. MINNESOTA WILD JARED SPURGEON, Defensemen Spurgeon is a small defenseman at 5-9 and 185 pounds, but is good at avoiding contact and playing solid defense. Spurgeon also chipped in with 26 points last year and a +15 rating. Spurgeon is also the team’s best defenseman at taking the puck away from opponents. MONTREAL CANADIENS BRENDAN GALLAGHER, Right Wing Gallagher is just 22 years old but has already found his way to the Montreal top line alongside Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais. Gallagher helps that line gain possession of the puck, which helps the offensive production of the line as a whole. NASHVILLE PREDATORS GABRIEL BOURQUE, Left Wing Bourque should not be counted on to carry the Nashville offense, but he’s a great puck possession forward who is an ideal fit on the third line. The potential is there for Bourque to improve his goal scoring abilities as well. NEW JERSEY DEVILS ANDY GREENE, Defensemen Greene does just about anything the Devils ask him to. He leads his team in time on ice and plays on both the power play and the penalty kill. He’s a tough defenseman who can score the puck a little bit as well. Greene is exactly the kind of player who doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. NEW YORK ISLANDERS BROCK NELSON, Center The young Nelson is a big body at 6-3 and scored 14 goals in his rookie season. Nelson might get the opportunity to play on a line with John Tavares, and if that happens, his production should spike as Nelson is already a great puck possession forward. JAKE MUZZIN BROCK NELSON
