Things don’t look much better after a forward-thinking offseason, but there is potential for improvement. HITTING At least things can’t get any worse at the plate, right? The White Sox were dead last in the AL in runs scored (598) and second to last in on-base percentage (.302) in 2013. The drop off from 2012, when they scored 748 runs, was staggering. Adam Dunn put up decent power numbers (34 HR, 86 RBI) but remained inconsistent at the plate (.219 average). Cuban slugger Jose Abreu and promising outfielder Avisail Garcia should bolster the middle of the lineup around Dunn. Former star leadoff prospect Adam Eaton adds speed to the top of the lineup, and veteran shortstop Alexi Ramirez can produce. The White Sox offense can’t help but be better than last year, but for it to make a big jump it needs guys to get on base and Abreu, Garcia and Dunn to bring them home. AL CENTRAL BRIAN D.
